Course 1 summary and analysis
*COURSE 1*
๐๐ผ *FASTING*
*ANALYSIS AND SUMMARY:*
Fasting, is one of the five pillars of the CDP. Fasting whether as abstinence from food and drink or as abstinence from some pleasurable activities, is always for certain reasons which include: spiritual growth, to show solidarity with others who are suffering, to mourn or to express repentance.
There are many types of fast ranging from no food to no pleasurable activities like sex, internet, etc. to group fasting, individual fasting, partial fasting, complete fasting, etc.
Fasting can achieve a number of benefits which include: soul cleansing, renewed desire for God, deeper praise life, sensitivity to the voice of God, a new spiritual satisfaction, etc.
To make the best out of fasting, you really need to take the following into consideration:
๐๐ผSet your objective
๐๐ผMake your commitment
๐๐ผPrepare yourself spiritually
๐๐ผPrepare yourself physically
๐๐ผPut yourself on a schedule
๐๐ผEnd your fast gradually
๐๐ผExpect results
Then, a number of fasting are observed in CDP, some of which are: daily fasting which is from 10pm to 4am, weekly fasting from 6am to 12noon every Friday, etc.
Fasting is not just any human invention. We have places in the Bible where people fasted. For example, David's fast in 2 Samuel 12:15-23, the fasting of the people of Nineveh in Jonah 3:4-10, Queen Esther's fast in Esther 4:3-16, Jesus and the Disciples fasting respectively in Matthew 6:2, 6:16-18, etc.
Therefore, dearest friends, Fasting is indispensable in the life of any sincere Christian. The BODY/FLESH must be subdued in order that our SPIRIT must rise. Thus, St. Paul encourages us to always walk in the SPIRIT so that we would not become SLAVES of the sinful desires of the flesh; namely: *fornication, lust, homosexuality, self-indulgence, etc."* (cf. Gal 5:16-19).
May God help us to always appreciate this spiritual arm of Fasting which is very essential in our Christian journey. Amen๐๐ผ
